Women are currently in the book of Hosea. Hosea the prophet had a unique and difficult call. God told him to marry a prostitute as a way to illustrate the relationship between God and His people. When they married, like any husband Hosea hoped that their mutual commitment to each other would keep them together. but his wife (named Gomer) didn’t give up her prior profession. Because of his cheating wife, Hosea had a unique perspective on how God felt about cheating Israel, who didn’t faithfully love God the way that God loved them.

Men are currently in the book of 1st Samuel. 1 and 2 Samuel form one book in the ancient Hebrew manuscripts. They were not divided into two books until the Old Testament was translated into Greek. We don’t know who wrote the books; certainly, Samuel was a major contributor, but much of the book takes place after his death in 1 Samuel 25. They are called the books of 1 and 2 Samuel, not because Samuel wrote all of them, but because they describe his great ministry in Israel and the legacy of it.
